DID YOU KNOW —— YOUR LOCAL PUB MAY BE WORTH MORE TO YOU THAN YOU THINK

Losing your pub may cause local house prices to fall.

Peer-reviewed research examining 373 local authorities across Great Britain found a positive relationship between pub numbers and house prices — and found the effect was significantly stronger in the most rural areas.  The researchers concluded that preserving rural pubs from closure can help keep house prices stable and may increase the value of local housing markets.

Property professionals have also estimated that the presence of a good village pub can enhance local property values by as much as 10%, while community-pub projects around the country have cited potential reductions of 5–10% following the loss of a local pub.

The loss of a village pub is not simply the loss of a business. CAMRA estimates that pub closures cost local economies £100 million in 2023 alone. Separate peer-reviewed academic research covering 373 local authorities found a strong positive relationship between pub numbers and house prices, with the relationship particularly significant in rural areas.

Even if you don't go to the pub or don't really care whether it stays open or not, this alone must make it worth considering doing something to preserve the value of your property.  If you think it makes solid financial sense - pledge now and be the first to be able to purchase shares in the pub.

Saving The Ship isn’t just about saving a pub. It’s about protecting an amenity that contributes to the attractiveness and economic value of our community and your house.
